Planning Changes to Your Smile: Position, Colour and Restorations

Explore the questions behind a smile makeover in Paphos. Discuss oral health, tooth position, colour and restorations with Dr Cos before choosing treatment.
A change to your smile can involve different concerns: the position of teeth, their colour, a damaged edge or an existing restoration. A useful plan begins by identifying the concern and assessing oral health, rather than assuming every smile needs the same combination of treatments.
Describe what you would like to change
Explain the specific detail that bothers you and what you would like to keep. Bringing questions or a description can help the conversation, but another person’s photograph does not establish a suitable treatment plan for your mouth.
Ask which findings need attention for health or function and which parts of the discussion relate to appearance. Understanding that distinction makes it easier to consider the purpose of each proposed step.
Tooth position, colour and restoration are different questions
If tooth position is the concern, clear aligners may be one option to discuss after an assessment. Ask which alternatives would be appropriate and what retention would involve.
For colour concerns, the teeth whitening guide explains questions about natural teeth, sensitivity and existing dental work. Whitening does not change restorations in the same way as natural teeth.
For a damaged tooth or a shape concern, crowns and veneers involve a separate discussion about the tooth, preparation and alternatives. A cosmetic goal alone does not establish that a restoration is needed.
Where digital planning can help
Digital Smile Design can help you discuss a proposal using images. Ask what the design represents, which changes may be feasible and what the images cannot tell you about the final result.
A simulation supports communication; it does not replace clinical assessment. If a mock-up or other preview is discussed, ask which stage it represents and how your feedback will be considered.
Ask about sequence, maintenance and alternatives
- Which concern does each proposed treatment address?
- Would treatment need to happen in a particular order?
- What would a more conservative approach involve?
- How would the results and any restorations be maintained?
- What does the complete estimate include?
